As described above, I wanted to save my data by connecting the broken mobile phone to a monitor via USB HUB and using a mouse, which works UNTIL I try to unlock the screen, then it keeps going black

On some smartphones, unlocking is made unrecognizable on the lock screen. Either the image is black or an alternative image is displayed.

If you're not currently using a pattern, you can also enter your PIN or password using a keyboard. With Enter or Space you should be able to skip swiping. Then type in a PIN or password and confirm with Enter. You should now see your home screen.
