The data consumption on Chrome is 2.8 GB within 6 days although I did not download anything and only a little bit surfing.
Had previously an iPhone with unlimited volume in the O2 network. Here was my highest consumption about 6-7 GB in a month with very frequent use.
For a week I have a new smartphone, a Huawei with Vodafone contract and 4GB data volume.
How can 2.8GB be consumed in Chrome in 6 days even though I did not surf much?
Could a virus be the permanent data sent somewhere.
You can even contact the support of your contract provider. They can probably help you.
So I do not know my way around with the mobile phone stuff, but on the PC I regularly clean up everything with CCleaner and or Bleachbit.
Chrome has a data saver under setting (?)
There's a bug from last year (2018): If the Google News app consumes an unusually large amount, it's best to deprive the app of background updating rights. That should be resolved.
There are great apps that block ads and thus save volume. AdBlockOrigin or uBlock, also noScript or similar should run.
If you want to harden Android you can read it or search for similar info: https://security.utexas.edu/handheld-hardening-checklists/android
Take another browser.
Try to find out if exactly or on which pages too much is consumed. The app here could help: https://play.google.com/...meter.lite
Maybe it's just a particular website that is responsible for this high consumption.

It always depends on which pages you surf. Advertising with videos / pictures also consumes a lot.
I checked. Solely the page Wetteronline uses 6MB just to open it. This can't be. Normally a maximum of 1MB is lost when opening a website.

I have Wetteronline ebend testweise opened on my PC. Since she needs about 6MB. However, if I turn my ad blocker, then the page needs only 2.5 MB. Half of it alone for all the pictures of the weather radar.
Turn on in the settings of Chrome times the lite mode. That should reduce the data consumption. In addition, Chrome then shows you exactly which page has consumed how much data.
Big is the page actually not, there are so 9 scripts and about 25 links to view the page completely… With ublock and no script, I have the most out.
That's interesting how much do certain services consume eg youtub at MB:
