WhatsApp profile picture is simply lost?

In the last two weeks I have noticed again and again that WhatsApp "swallows" my profile picture. It keeps getting lost or at some point just disappears until I stop it. Then it is lost again after 1-2 days and I have to stop it again.

Actually, I don't care and I rarely use the medium, but on the other hand it's just "not normal" and I wanted to ask why that is. Smartphone is a Huawei P30 Lite that I bought new in June.

Top right menu with 3 dots / lines

Your picture is displayed at the top left under the back arrow

You can change it by selecting it and clicking on the camera symbol
