Is the Huawei Mate 9 Pro still worth it compared to the Huawei Mate 20 Lite?

Explanation of my problem.

My old LG G3 has "burned up". Now I need a new phone quickly, but my purse is rather narrow nature, so I will spend no more than 300 euro for a Simlock free phone. So I move in the middle class.
Most important to me are the longest possible battery life and a large display, because I have big hands.

After my research, I became aware of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite (published in late 2018) NEW for 290 euro.
Now I just found the Huawei Mate 9 Pro in the Amzone Warehouse for 250 Euro, condition "used, like new". This was a high-end smartphone at the end of 2016 and now costs around 400 euro.

Which is better, has someone experience and can help me to buy the best possible or are there still alternatives?

would tend to the mate 9 per.

Reason:

- Larger battery

-more RAM

faster processor

Depends on whether you also use many apps. Because for standard apps like What's app and co. Do not you really need a lot of RAM and a slightly faster processor.

Basically, old high end devices are usually the better middle class devices. I think Heise or something wrote an article about it.

Thank you for your quick and detailed answer Knallex. One thing is not completely conclusive to me. Is there a difference between the Mate 9 Pro and the Mate 9 or is it the same phone?
Huawei "P" "Pro" "lite" "mate" is really confusing.

As with other manufacturers, for example Samsung with the Galaxy S9 and the S9+

The Pro with the Mate 9 or generally the more expensive variants of the mobile phones is usually equipped with a slightly larger battery (because usually more screen therefore more energy consumption) and a larger hard disk space + more memory.

The lite versions are usually equipped with worse processors, displays (no AMOLED) less hard disk space, less memory and sometimes even with worse cameras.

Of lite versions, I think rather little, but I would have to do without too much.

From the optics, the Pro version is usually hardly different from the normal.

Again summarized:

Per:

-More RAM (RAM)

- Larger and usually better display

bigger battery

usually costs 100-200 euro more

Lite:

- less RAM

-Lower display resolution

- less hard disk space

worse processor

- generally cheaper processing

is usually 200 euro + cheaper

Finding the right mobile phone is quite expensive!

I ordered the P20 lite a week ago and pay (in the case of Yourfone - O2) incl. 3GB Telefonflatrate about 410 Euro for 2 years. That means the phone costs me minus the TELEFONFLAT under 90 euro with a little bit of action. This is a lot of mobile for little money. I spent a whole time on YouTube and looked at various tests. Also in comparison with the Mate 20 lite. I then landed in the comparison of the services and the price at P20 lite.
