Deleted WhatsApp contacts keep appearing from time to time. Why is that?

I've had the problem for quite some time that deleted WhatsApp contacts just pop up again sometime.

First of all it is so that I do not even have these persons in my contact list. At least they are not displayed there. I use the Google Contacts app. If I type in the app on top of the three dots and select Customize View, I can select All Contacts or Customize. I've tried both by just selecting All Contacts and customizing and checking them everywhere (My Contacts, Starred in Android, Friends, Family, Coworkers, Recovered by Huawei - KIW-L21, All Other Contacts)

Incidentally, the Huawei is my old smartphone (Honor 5X). Currently I use a Xiaomi Mi A2.

I do not understand where the contacts come from and why they will reappear sometime after I have deleted them. I do not actually play an automatic backup or anything like that.

If I open one of these unwanted contacts as a chat with WhatsApp, I can click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select View Contact => Show in Address Book. He will actually open me there. I can then also delete the person, which I have already done.

It is therefore questionable why the contacts reappear sometime and why I do not see them in the address book or can only be displayed directly in the address book via WhatsApp.

Are you signed in to your phone with a Google Account or multiple accounts? It may be that you still have the contacts in the accounts themselves and you have to delete them there before they are really "completely" out. Otherwise the accounts will be synced over and over again and the contacts will be loaded onto your phone.

I do not know. I only have the Google app to let me see my contacts. I'll download another app for contacts later. Maybe then I will get access to further contacts.
