Want a cell phone that lasts for years. I do not want another hand mark wzb Huawei.
You tend to get longer updates for the iphones. The hardware does not take much, as Apple has somewhat tightened.
My tip would be an S8 or S9, so not the very latest Samsung. That is then cheaper.
Actually, the smartphones have become so good today, the iPhone and Samsung could relate almost the same life. But if you always want the latest operating system and even after 3-4 years, then Apple would do the better.
On average, iPhones are probably used the longest. The main reason for this is that, unlike other manufacturers, they still get software updates for years to come.

All in all, such a question is difficult to answer. With good care, both brands last long. The usual wear parts (battery) have both the same.
For Apple, the more constant supply of updates, for Samsung especially the slightly simpler repair - Apple makes it partly very difficult for its customers to repair products (bonded alkus, proprietary screws, etc.)

This is really nonsense, at least for the more expensive models.
So is newer devices of the Galaxy S or Note series replacement of the (strongly bonded!) Batteries unnecessarily complicated, for a display exchange, the devices must even be completely disassembled.
As far as higher-end smartphones are concerned, iPhones are actually considered by far the most repair-friendly. In particular, display or battery replacement are relatively easy to do and with little tools.
If you really want to use a smartphone for many years, there's no way around the iPhone, as these are the only ones that have been kept up to date on the software for many years.
For example, the iPhone 5s from 2013 is still supported by the current iOS version (12.4), only in the fall with iOS 13 will be the end after 6 years…
