Also, I just compared some Huawei phones like P 20 lite and Mate 10 lite to Samsung S7 and S8 - and apart from a worse resolution and pixel density, I did not find any difference, except that the Huawei phones are just a bit cheaper.

Nevertheless, the S8 currently has nothing I need what other phones can't offer me for a better price. An Honor Play for 270 euro has the latest Huawei processor and a super Full HD display and big battery. Even the camera is not bad. Does Samsung have an alternative? No. And that's why Samsung is no longer so popular, all other manufacturers offer more smartphone for less money.
