I ordered an AUX cable for my cell phone, i.e. USB C on one side and a jack plug on the other. Then I wanted to listen to music in the car, but I couldn't. Any tips?

The huawei p20 lite usually has a 3.5mm jack right? So the USB c connection would not work because you need a jack connection.
