Video from USB stick to Huawei p30 lite?

I have a USB stick and would like to connect it to my Huawei p30 lite. I bought an Otg cable and adapter. I have already downloaded various apps, but the stick is simply not recognized. What am I doing wrong? I'm really pissed and about to throw the stick away because it doesn't work. I don't have a laptop and I don't buy it just for that. Who can help me?
