Both are Huawei Matebook D, why the price difference? What is the difference?

su

These are 2 different devices, compare the technical data - in the picture you can already see the first difference…

Pl

With Intel processors, the manufacturers still have to pay royalties for the chipset on the motherboard. Therefore more expensive.

Al

Alone for the Intel Core i7-8550u, Intel already recommends a current retail price of $ 409.

https://ark.intel.com/...0-ghz.html

The AMD Ryzen 5-2500u should only cost at most 30 - 50% of it.

Then you have to look at which drives with which capacity, which PCIe additional graphics, further additional features (card reader, CD / DVD / BD drive) and batteries (respective nominal capacity) were installed in the two books.

Mo

To get a certain overview, I'll give you the technical data of the two devices.

Huawei MateBook D W00D - 699 euro

14-inch display, Full HD, matte
AMD Ryzen 5 2500U
Radeon Vega 8 Mobile (integrated)
8 GB RAM
256 GB SSD
Connections: 1x HDMI, 1x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0, 1x USB 3.1
Windows 10 Home

HUAWEI MateBook D W60B - 1.199 euro

14-inch display, Full HD, anti-reflective
Intel Core i7-8550U
NVIDIA GeForce MX150 (dedicated)
8 GB RAM
256 GB SSD
Connections: 1x HDMI, 1x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0, 1x USB 3.1
Windows 10 Home

One worth mentioning difference is the different processor. The i7-8550U has a little more power. Furthermore, the device with the i7-8550U still has a dedicated graphics card installed. Dedicated graphics cards typically have more power than integrated ones. Whether you need the power depends on your applications. In most cases, dedicated graphics cards are used for gambling, sometimes for video and image editing. For this purpose, then a more powerful processor makes sense, at best from i7 or something equivalent of AMD, when it comes to image and video editing. For playing an i5 is enough.

Otherwise, the memory as well as the size of the SSD is the same in both devices. Connections are the same too. Both devices also have Bluetooth and the same battery capacity. The displays are different (http://blog.notebook.de/was-ist-eigentlich-der-unterschied-zwischen-einem-matten-blendfreien-und-entspiegelten-display). A surcharge of 500 euro, I would for the differences in no case in purchasing. Which device would be generally recommendable for you can't be said anyway without knowing your requirements.

Pe

I need it only for watching movies, ebay, bit facebook, manage pictures & music and stuff like that. What I'm sure not gonna do is gamble! But I value value for money.

Mo

For multimedia applications I would recommend a processor from Intel Core i5 or something equivalent from AMD. Also, as in the devices shown above, 8GB of RAM and, at best, an SSD. An SSD provides in comparison to a HDD again for a decent speed difference. Of course, you do not have to spend 700 euro or even 1,200 euro on something like that.

Should it be a 14-inch device or rather 15.6?

Pe

I would rather believe a 14. "Likes rather compact notebooks

Mo

There's something neat about it: https://www.alternate.de/Lenovo/IdeaPad-S340-14IWL-(81N700HGGE)-Notebook/html/product/1546803

Intel Core 14-inch, Intel Core i5-8265U, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD - 550 euro.

Pe

What do you say about the Lenovo Yoga 530?

is a bit more expensive, but you can use it as a tablet

Mo

Do you have a link ready?

Also not bad and would also have more memory.

The difference is the one is an AMD / ATI system with a Ryzen 5 2500U with integrated Radon Vega RX 8 and the other an Intel / NVidea system with I7 8550U and an NVidia MX150. The reason for the price difference is, the CPU costs about twice as much and then the graphics card is still on top.

Worth the 1199 model does not pay. The MX150 is simply too weak for a dedicated graphics card. Sure, it's 1.5 to 2 times faster than the Vega 8, but if you're going to make the price jump, it should be a laptop that's good for the game.
