Why does my iPad have such a bad connection with an old router?

I have a new iPad and an old router from the previous tenant (from 2013 I think)

The direct Wi-Fi connection is extremely bad with the iPad and also fails more often. The connection is much better with my Huawei Mate 10 lite. I now share the Wi-Fi on my cell phone with my iPad and now it's mediocre. (5 times faster than a direct connection according to a speed test).

Why is that? Is the iPad simply no longer compatible with such an old cheap router?

Has nothing to do with the router but with the line / provider.

or there's a defect on the iPad when the iPhone is working.

So the iPad is new, and the connection is great when I share the Wi-Fi via my computer (So the computer is directly connected to the router via cable and the speed and stability is also good) and quite fine when I use my cell phone connected to the router and then share the Wi-Fi again. Incidentally, the distance to the router makes no difference.

The cell phone is not an iPhone, but a Huawei smartphone (Android).

OK.
