Handy tone Suddenly quiet and 'Weak'?

I was just showering and put my phone on the edge of the sink as usual (to hear YouTube on the way), but then it slipped into the sink (was dry) no more, no less. Now, the volume is quite quiet even when the knob is high up, and it generally sounds like you're holding a blanket or pillow in front of the speaker. What can this be and is there a way to fix it?
