Can Huawei p20 and ps3 controller connect with (this) otg cable?

According to Google, the Huawei P20 supports OTG, I would like to connect my PS3 controller to the smartphone, since such an emulator is easier to record on the smartphone. I found a cable on ebay, I just wasn't sure if it all worked out and wanted to be sure before I buy it. Here is the link:

There's no real difference now with OTG cables. So you can take anything.
Of course you can also root your smartphone and then connect the controller to your smartphone via Bluetooth.

Can you do that without rooting, or OTG is the replacement for it if you don't want to root?
