I heard recently that huawei, hu-a-wei-i is not pronounced hu-a-wa-i what do you say?
Huawei is Chinese…
The correct Chinese pronunciation is a bit more complicated: In phonetic transcription the name is something like "Wah-Wey".
According to Huawei Germany, however, both pronunciations are considered correct in this country.
Statement from 2017
I always say hua-uai so I pronounce the w as u
In the original it is even pronounced "Wahwei".
Huawei is Chinese. So it stands to reason that the German pronunciation "Hu-A-Wei" is not entirely correct.

I only ever hear 'hua-wey' when it is pronounced in Chinese. You can forget about Google Translate. Take Forvo is 1000 times better and if a Chinese speaks it personally, it will be right. Since there are several dialects such as Wu-Chinese, Mandarin, Cantonese etc… It is then pronounced differently regionally. The W is pronounced almost like a U as, unlike in Europe and America.
I didn't have that translated, it was Chip de.
Correct is / ˈhwɑːweɪ̯ /, ie "Wah-Way". At least that's the Chinese pronunciation of the manufacturer's name. The meaning of the name could also be interesting for one or the other. The website https://interculturecapital.de/bedeutung-chinesische-markennamen-huawei-aussprache-auf-chinesisch/ explains that Huawei is made up of two words. The first part of the name, namely Hua 华, means something like "fame" or "greatness". At the same time it can also stand for "China" itself. The meaning of white, on the other hand, is broad, but according to our source it should mean something like "achievement" in the brand name.

So, actually it is spoken like this:
Huawei
Only the phonetic spelling is of little use to you if you don't know the rules for it. The transcription Huawei will never reproduce the pronunciation anyway. (Yes, right, the name is basically a simplification of the phonetic spelling)
The i is afaik not really removed.
I've known that for a long time, as I'm also very interested in the languages Chinese and Japanese.
