I did a system update on my cell phone yesterday. I had never set up a password, no fingerprint etc. After the update, the cell phone asked for my SIM PIN, and then for an 8-digit code. How do I find out the code if it is nowhere in the documents and I have never set one up?
That should have been with the documents of your SIM card.
It can be found on the letter or email you received the SIM card with. That is the PUK. If you enter it incorrectly, your card will be blocked.

If you no longer have the PUK yourself, you can request a new one from your provider. However, this usually costs something, so it can be worthwhile to search again.
