I have had the Huawei p20lite for about a year now. I would say it is still in top shape. Now I'm thinking of buying a rather expensive phone case and wonder if this is still worth it. I have the experience that smartphones do not last long and you need a new one after 2 years because it is getting slower, etc. Does anyone have experience with Huawei?
When a smartphone slows down and hangs itself, it returns to factory settings. This has nothing to do with age, only the battery is subject to wear.

And how about the updates? Have heard that the mobile phone will not be able to make new updates at some point.
You mean now because of the US sanctions? That does not affect your P20 lite.
Most phones that I had, Nokia, Windows but also Samsung all began to spin after 2 years.
Since the warranty was over and lt. Cell Phone Contract the opportunity to get a new one with a new contract for 2 years.
I think everything is so wanted and preprogrammed…
