The device does not meet the requirements for Fortnite.
It requires a high-end device with e.g. Snapdragon 821 or better. 835 or 845 is recommended.
For Huawei, that would be the Kirin 960 or 970 chip.
I guess since the mate 10 lite (which has a worse processor synonymous works). Just try it:-).

No, unfortunately you can't do that yet. I first tried to download Fortnite as normal. That did not work… Then I ran the software and then had the app on my phone. When I went in then the processor said that this app is not compatible.
